Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Miss Muffet

Miss Muffet Date – Date

One of our "oldest" ladies in the group has gone on to the Rainbow Bridge. Muffy shared 12 years with us after she was literally taken from deaths door at the shelter and nursed back to health. You will be missed our little Diva!

Joe Date – Date

Joe was a Large Munsterlander, which is a rather rare breed. He was more than just a rare breed, but was a rare treasure and everyone who knew him fell in love instantly. He was adopted by KS K-9 ResQ foster parents who took him into their home and knew he was meant to be a part of their family. He was present at many KS K-9 events and enjoyed being around people. He fought a brave fight at the end and he will be greatly missed by many.

Tanner Date – Date

Tanner had a short life, but had wonderful, caring foster parents and a fantastic forever home that all loved him dearly.
Baby Girl

Baby Girl Date – Date

We will always remember the day we first saw Baby Girl at the Animal Shelter. She had resigned herself to her fate there. Kept her back to people. When we brought a leash in and got her out of that tiny crate she knew she had a second chance. She had obviously been a very loved dog at some point. She knew so many commands, played fetch and catch, and instantly bonded with our dog Buddy. She would 'come alive' at the sight of a tennis ball. But would stand still for hugs. Baby Girl was first adopted by a young family with 2 small children. She always stayed between the kids and the small pond in their back yard, and was very protective, like the children were her charges. When their son developed severe allergies to her they tried everything to help and did not want to put their 18 month old on medication, so they relinquished her back to us. That's when Helen found her. She had recently lost her best friend, a Golden Retriever, and was drawn to Baby Girl's name and picture. She was a very special girl who gave more meaning to Helen's life. Say a little prayer for both won't you?

Chester (Skip) Date – Date

Chester was a stray who found himself in the Wichita Animal Shelter. Janet chose him to foster until his forever home was found. He went to the Rainbow Bridge on January 17, 2011. He is pictured here with his favorite ball.

Josie Date – Date

Josie passed away February 24th, 2009 due to health issues. She now waits for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

Layla (Shadow) Date – Date

Layla was a stray who nobody wanted. She was left by the people who found her at a veterinary clinic when it was discovered that she had heartworms. She came into Kansas K-9 ResQ for her heartworm treatment and was found to be an incredibly smart and sensitive girl. She was adopted by Dick and Linda who gave her the best of homes. In December 2009, she was found to have an inoperable cancer and went to the Rainbow Bridge. Her final year and a half were spent as a well loved member of the family.

Millie Date – Date

Millie was a sheltie mix and was the first dog (of many) that have been treated for heartworms by Kansas K-9 ResQ! She was adopted in Feb, 2002 by Loucinda and family. She lived the rest of her life in a loving home where she was pampered and very much a member of the family.

Olivia Date – Date

Olivia was a sweet, little cuddle bug despite having her eyes matted shut when rescued and an absessed tooth that had to be removed. She healed nicely and found a fantastic forever home. However, just one short month after joining her new family her lack of care for the first part of her life caught up with her. She went to the Rainbow Bridge on March 13, 2010. For the final few months of her short life she was loved by her foster family and her forever family.
Pretty Penny

Pretty Penny (Allie) Date – Date

Pretty Penny (whose name was changed to Allie) passed away January 24, 2011. Pretty Penny found herself at the Wichita Animal Shelter in 2004. She was estimated to be 7 years old and was near death when she was selected to foster by a K-9 ResQ volunteer. When her health improved with good care, she was adopted, but returned 4 years later when one of her owners died. She came back to us in very poor health. She was adopted by her Guardian Angel Lori who gave her another 3 years and 1 month of life due to the love and extensive veterinary care she was given. Pretty Penny was a little dog who fought for every day here on earth!! God bless Lori and Pretty Penny.

Rex Date – Date

Rex was a beautiful smooth collie mix puppy when he found himself at the Wichita Animal Shelter in March 2007. He was in K-9 ResQ care for 5 months when he found his forever home with Heather, Martin and their family who dearly loved him. Rex enjoyed his active life with his new family until he began having excruciating pain in his hips. When the pain medications were no longer effective, his suffering was ended on September 9, 2011.

Sadie Date – Date

When Sadie was found at the Wichita Animal Shelter, she was obviously an old dog with few teeth and no hope in her eyes. After finding a wonderful home with 3 other shelties, she became a happy, healthy girl for her remaining 4 years. Thank you to Kathy and Buck for taking such wonderful care of this graceful old girl. Sadie went to the Rainbow Bridge on May 11, 2009.
